Get your DD-214
Order free at archives.gov/veterans (eVetRecs) or by mailing SF-180 to the National Personnel Records Center. 10–20 business days online, 8–12 weeks by mail.
File an Intent to File
Locks in your effective date at VA.gov, by phone, in person, or through a VSO. You then have 1 year to complete your claim.
Build your evidence
Diagnosis, in-service event, and a medical link between them — plus any supporting records.
File — with free help
File online at VA.gov, or get a free accredited VSO (DAV, VFW, American Legion, or your County VSO) to file for you.
Decision — or appeal
The VA issues a rating decision. If you disagree, you have three review options within one year.

A Veterans Law Judge reviews your case directly, with or without a hearing.
